Historically, music for films has been provided by orchestras, however in recent years it is becoming increasingly popular to also feature synthesisers and electronics, in what is sometimes referred to as a hybrid orchestra. A prolific user of this technique was Jóhann Jóhannsson, an Icelandic composer, born in 1969.
